The Internet as an information resource enables the library to provide information beyond the confines of its collections. It allows access to ideas, information, and commentary from around the globe. Currently, however, it is an unregulated medium. As such, while it offers a wealth of material that is personally, professionally, and culturally enriching, it also enables access to some material that may be offensive, disturbing, and /or illegal.
Patrons must have a valid library card with fines under $3.00 to use the Internet.
A patrons driver's license may be used one time to sign on to the Internet!
Patrons must accept responsibility for determining content and suitability. Child Internet Protection Act: (CIPA)
The Library uses filtering software to block access to some Internet sites. Since no filtering system is completely effective or efficient, further restriction of a minor’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.
Stewartville Public Library does not have electric outlets available for using PC/MAC devices, tablet devices, or other devices that require electricity.
Stewartville Public Library provides free wireless Internet access points or "hot spots" throughout its facilities during normal library business hours for users with portable computers or devices capable of receiving wireless signals.
Stewartville Public Library’s staff is not able to provide technical assistance and no guarantee can be made that you will be able to make a wireless connection. Stewartville Public Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or for notebook/laptop computer or other wireless devices configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library’s wireless access.
PLEASE NOTE: Printing access is not available via the wireless connection.
Internet computers are not to be used for illegal activity or to access illegal materials that by local community standards would be obscene or pornographic.
To preserve their own safety, users should avoid disclosing personal information over the Internet.
Users will obey the copyright laws and licensing agreements. Downloading copyrighted material. U.S. copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted materials, except as permitted by the principles of "fair use".
Users may not copy or distribute electronic materials without the explicit permission of the copyright holder.
The Library Staff is authorized to take prompt and appropriate actions to enforce the library’s Internet Rules.
